'Extremism' report based on Web chat 2 groups call for Napolitano to take responsibility, quit

By Bob Unruh

At least two groups are demanding Department of Homeland Security Security Janet Napolitano quit after a report revealed that the agency's recent report on "rightwing extremists" was based on sources no more or less secure than Internet chat.

The DHS report was "Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate

Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment." WND has posted the report online for readers to see.

The report linked returning veterans with the possibility of terrorism, and when it was released it created such a furor for Napolitano she has given several explanations for it, including that she would have reworded the report and that it was issued by a rogue employee.

She later apologized to veterans for having linked them to terror.

But critics noted that the report also targeted as "potential terrorists" Americans who: ....

'Frivolous': Latest challenge of soldier vs. Obama tossed Stunned warrior: 'I might get crushed in the wheels of the Chicago machine'

By Joe Kovacs

TAMPA, Fla. – An American soldier questioning the eligibility of President Barack Obama to hold office has had his latest legal challenge dismissed "as frivolous and wholly without merit."

The Aug. 6 ruling by U.S. District Judge Richard A. Lazzara came less than two hours after motions were filed by Maj. Stefan Cook, a member of the U.S. Army Reserve who is seeking a firm determination whether the commander in chief of the Armed Forces is a "natural born citizen," a constitutional requirement for those holding the presidency.

"There was no reasoning, no nothing," said Maj. Cook, who noted previous legal decisions in his case included three or four pages of legal explanations.

"It's ridiculous. They're not even saying why it's frivolous and without merit. You can say that to anything with no justification or reason. That's crap. So much for jurisprudence in this country."

Cook's latest motions sought for his case to be reheard in Florida after a judge in Georgia declared lack of jurisdiction, as well as an attempt to have Judge Lazzara recuse himself from the case for possible bias.

WND asked the Lazzara's office about why there was no explanation in the judge's "endorsed order," and Sandra Hartman, Lazzara's judicial assistant said, "That's standard procedure if a judge wants to use it."

She also indicated, "There's nothing sealed in this case. It's a public record." ....

Taliban drug proceeds lower than thought, U.S. report says

Reporting from Washington - The CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency have concluded that the amount of drug money flowing to the Taliban in Afghanistan is far lower than widely estimated but remains critical to the insurgents' ability to survive, according to a Senate report released Tuesday.

The two spy agencies believe that Taliban leaders receive about $70 million a year from Afghanistan's lucrative poppy crop -- far lower than the $400-million estimate released last year by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. ....

Danger Room in Afghanistan: An Election Rehearsal

By Nathan Hodge

BAGRAM, Afghanistan — In Afghanistan’s upcoming presidential vote, perception is everything. The Taliban want to create a climate of fear and instability; the Afghan government wants to dispel concerns about electoral fraud. And the U.S. military, for its part, wants to avoid the perception that it is pulling the strings.

That’s not an easy task: Insurgents have threatened to disrupt the balloting, and U.S. and coalition forces will be on call to provide backup on election day. The authorities are planning to open nearly 7,000 polling stations, and hundreds of polling centers, particularly in the country’s volatile south, are considered to be in danger.

On Wednesday, I had the chance to attend an election security planning meeting for Parwan Province, a relatively secure part of north-central Afghanistan that is the home to a major U.S. military base, Bagram Airfield. The meeting was attended by Afghan army and police commanders, representatives of the State Department and the UN Assistance Mission to Afghanistan, members of Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission and Provincial Governor Abdul Basir Salangi. Task Force Gladius, which is responsible for security in this key region, played host.

The main message? Afghans are supposed to take the lead — and the U.S. and coalition forces want to keep a low profile. ....

Food Firms Warn of Sugar Shortage

Some of America's biggest food companies say the U.S. could "virtually run out of sugar" if the Obama administration doesn't ease import restrictions amid soaring prices for the key commodity.

In a letter to Agriculture Secretary Thomas Vilsack, the big brands -- including Kraft Foods Inc., General Mills Inc., Hershey Co. and Mars Inc. -- bluntly raised the prospect of a severe shortage of sugar used in chocolate bars, breakfast cereal, cookies, chewing gum and thousands of other products.

The companies threatened to jack up consumer prices and lay off workers if the Agriculture Department doesn't allow them to import ...

Finding the right balance: Deep packet inspection encourages innovation and information sharing while protecting DoD networks

by Kevin Curran

Faced with growing network usage, the DoD can look to deep packet inspection to differentiate authorized, unauthorized, and recreational traffic at a deeper level for better security, bandwidth management, and overall information assurance.

Modern warfare places very particular requirements on network communications infrastructure. As the Department of Defense (DoD) evolves to support a net-centric environment, the agency's networks are critical to maintaining the secure collaboration and information sharing necessary for a common operational picture of the battlefield and mission operations. ....

20 Questions for Your Congressman

By Robert Tracinski

The smear against small-government advocates who have confronted their congressmen at town hall meetings is that they are an "angry mob" who just want to shout down advocates of Obama's health-care bill. In fact, these protesters have come to the meetings to ask some tough questions—questions that should have been asked by the mainstream media. So when you head off to a local town hall meeting during the August recess, focus on asking good questions. I don't mean just rhetorical questions intended to make a point, but also real questions that require a substantive answer.

As a guide to help you prepare for your local town hall meeting, here are my suggestions for 20 questions you can ask your elected representatives about the economics, history, politics, and morality of Obama's health-care plan. If your elected representative will answer these questions, it will tell you a great deal about his principles (or lack of them) and his goals. It might also tell you about his method of making decisions: does he just repeat canned talking points, or does he really think about your questions? And if he won't answer your questions—if he doesn't have the guts to do anything but preach to the converted at union-sponsored rallies—well, that gives you all the answers you need right there, doesn't it?

But don't just ask these questions of your congressmen. Ask them of your friends and neighbors, of newspaper columnists and reporters, of local doctors and businessmen and others in positions of influence. These are the kinds of questions we should all be thinking about and trying to answer, if we are going to subject this legislation to the scrutiny it needs before Congress votes on it. ....

Is ‘Petro Jihad’ Behind Western Abandoning of Iran’s Uprising?

Dr. Walid Phares

What are the strategic reasons behind Western reluctance to support Iran's opposition? One theory is that there are immense Oil interests in partnership with the region's Jihadist regimes obstructing the advance of democracy in the region. The reluctance by the Obama Administration and other European Governments to extend their hand of support to Iran's civil society during the June uprising can be explained through the pressures applied by interest groups, including Oil producing regimes not to "meddle" in Iran's affairs and let go of the democratic movement. ....

Unless Iran's politics change, Mr. Obama's policy will fail. At that point, he will need a new, new policy of increasingly severe sanctions under the looming threat of bombardment—exactly Mr. Bush's old policy. Officials see rise in militia groups across US

By EILEEN SULLIVAN

WASHINGTON (AP) - Militia groups with gripes against the government are regrouping across the country and could grow rapidly, according to an organization that tracks such trends ....

Bart McEntire, a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, told SPLC researchers that this is the most growth he's seen in more than a decade.

"All it's lacking is a spark," McEntire said in the report.

It's reminiscent of what was seen in the 1990s—right-wing militias, people ideologically against paying taxes and so-called "sovereign citizens" are popping up in large numbers, according to the report to be released Wednesday. The SPLC is a nonprofit civil rights group that, among other activities, investigates hate groups.

Last October, someone from the Ohio Militia posted a recruiting video on YouTube, billed as a "wake-up call" for America. It's been viewed more than 60,000 times.

"Things are bad, things are real bad, and it's going to be a lot worse," said the man on the video, who did not give his name. "Our country is in peril."

The man is holding an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle, and he encourages viewers to buy one.

Torture claims center on scenic isle Case has MI6 chief John Scarlett of defense

LONDON – Whatever did or didn't happen on a tiny remote British Crown Colony, the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, has brought MI6 chief John Scarlett out of his shadowy world this week to ward off allegations both MI6 and MI5 were complicit in torture of suspected terrorists at a top-secret interrogation center there, according to a report from Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin.

After 9/11 but before President Obama took office in the United States, high value al-Qaida and Taliban terrorists were flown to Diego Garcia in what were called "extraordinary rendition flights."

On Nov. 3, 2000, Britain's Foreign Office issued an "Immigration Ordinance Order" which assured that Diego Garcia would remain "as secret a place as can be found on the planet," the government of Tony Blair announced at the time. But when he soon gives evidence to the Chilcot Enquiry into the Iraq War, "he will be questioned about Diego Garcia," according to a Whitehall source. ....

Will Americans follow orders to take flu shots? Alarmist language sparking fears of mandatory vaccinations, quarantines

By Bob Unruh

Alarmist language over possible outbreaks of swine flu as well as a series of moves by the federal government are fueling fears federal agents will soon be forcing citizens to be vaccinated – prompting one political party to launch a pre-emptive defense against any such effort.

The Constitution Party, a fast-growing alternative to the dominant Democratic and Republican parties in many elections, has come out strongly in opposition to any "mandatory injections" of "potential toxic (H1N1) 'swine flu' vaccine."

Citing the Fourth Amendment, which says, "The right of the people to be secure in their persons … shall not be violated," Constitution Party National Committee Chairman Jim Clymer said the issue isn't that complex.

"It comes down to the most fundamental of all freedoms. If government can force potentially dangerous substances into our bodies what, then, can't government do to us?" he said.

Shots frighten you? Be sure to get "SCARY MEDICINE: Exposing the dark side of vaccines"

"Whether mandated by the federal government, the individual states such as Massachusetts or international organizations like the World Health Organization or the United Nations, forcing potentially dangerous chemicals on a free people is tyranny," Clymer said.....

The Economic Consequences of Waxman-Markey: An Analysis of the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009

(Analyst's note: A new study directly challenges government analyses and exposes the devastating effects cap-and-trade would have on individual families, the job market and the nation's finances. You will want to review this absolutely must read report, so please click on the title above for the balance of the original item. Do you ever wonder who these people in Washington think they work for anyway?)

Center for Data Analysis Report #09-04

Do you want to pay more for less energy?

When they return from their August vacations, Senators will debate the Waxman-Markey cap-and-trade legislation, which is intended to curb global warming. As lawmakers debate the proposal, which already passed the House, Heritage Foundation experts are once again reminding Americans of the significant economic losses the nation faces should the plan become law.

After a truncated debate and last-minute changes, the House of Representatives narrowly passed climate-change legislation on June 26, 2009, designed by Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Edward Markey (D-MA). The 1,427-page bill would restrict greenhouse gas emissions from industry, mainly carbon dioxide from the combustion of coal, oil, and natural gas.

Since energy is the lifeblood of the American economy, 85 percent of which comes from CO2-emitting fossil fuels, the Waxman-Markey bill represents an extraordinary level of economic interference by the federal government. For this reason, it is important for policymakers to have a sense of the economic impact that accompanies any environmental benefits.[1]

Analysis by The Heritage Foundation's Center for Data Analysis (CDA) makes clear that Waxman-Markey promises serious perils for the American economy for the years and decades ahead. Waxman-Markey requires arbitrary and severe restrictions on the current energy supply and infrastructure. These restrictions can be met only through large-scale deployment of still-undeveloped or uneconomical technologies and alternative energy sources. In addition to the direct impact on consumers' budgets through higher electric bills and gasoline prices, the resultant increase in energy costs will reverberate throughout the economy and inject unnecessary inefficiencies at virtually every stage of production. It would suppress economic activity and reduce employment, especially in the manufacturing sector. Virtually all costs would eventually filter down to the American people. ....
