Announcing The Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor Project (JTTM)

Beginning today, MEMRI's Islamist Websites Monitor Project website will operate under its new format, and will have a new name - The Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM). You will be able to register as a member and will have access to materials from this project.

The following is a description of this new MEMRI project:

MEMRI's Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM) scrutinizes Islamist terrorism worldwide, with a special focus on the Arab world, Iran, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. By monitoring strategic, tactical, ideological, military, and conventional and non-conventional threats to public safety and security, both imminent and potential - and to crucial interests and assets of states targeted by terrorism, MEMRI's JTTM enables those under threat to effectively address and confront these threats.

The JTTM focuses on threats posed by independent terror organizations as well as by state-sponsored terrorism.

JTTM translations and analysis feature material from sources monitored around the clock, include

• Online media: The 100 most important Islamist sites and blogs.

• Printed media: From all Arab countries, as well as Arabic-language London dailies and magazines and Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, and Turkey.
• Visual media: TV channels from the Arab world and Iran as well as jihadist videos posted online from all over the world.
• Audio media: Cassettes and radio broadcasts from various Arab countries as well as from Pakistan and Afghanistan.

• The JTTM Website will include the following sections:

• Alert Planning & Training (APT)
• Global Jihad News (GJN)
• Jihadi Texts (JT)
• In-Depth Threat Analysis (IDA)
• Global Jihad - Opposition & Dissent (GJ-O&D)

• JTTM content focuses on the following:

• Threats to Western strategic and economic interests:
• Oil facilities and transportation, such as sea ports and the Strait of Hormuz
• Civil infrastructure, such as water systems, power grids, gas pipelines
  Electronic jihad, such as attacks on databases, banking systems, and online retailers

• Threats to Western military forces worldwide:

• Instructional videos on attacking U.S. MPVs and other military vehicles, and on
  preparing IEDs
• Instructions for using technologies such as Google Earth and WikiMapia to assess
  vulnerabilities of U.S. military bases
• Threats against U.S.civilian administration and Western companies and organizations
  and their employees in the Middle East
• Development of jihadists' military and technological capabilities:
• Manuals on manufacturing and using explosives, as well as household chemicals, poisons, booby-traps, light weaponry, etc.
• Texts and videos for training terrorists to plan and carry out attacks
• Guides for manufacturing WMDs

• New ideological trends and major ideological debates within the jihadist camp:

• Changes in fundamental traditional notions, such as religious legitimacy and legitimate leadership
• The ongoing debate over the religious boundaries of permissible jihad against infidels,
  including the killing of civilians and the use of WMDs, as well as online crime such as credit card information theft
• Oppositions and conflicts within the jihad camp
• Renunciation of jihad by major Islamist groups and prominent jihad leaders

• The global jihad network:

• Information about existing and new jihad organizations
• Emerging alliances among various jihad groups
• Collaboration between combatant and non-combatant jihadists such as those engaging

To register for MEMRI's JTTM Project, go to the Jihad and Terrorism Threat Monitor (JTTM) site and click "Subscription" at the top of the page.

Please allow approximately five business days for us to process your application; at that time you will be sent a secure link to use to make your membership payment.

During our initial launch phase, there may be a slight delay due to the volume of applications and due to the holiday season. Once payment is received, your account will be activated and you will have full access to the site.
